It’s a 126-kilometre, three-day journey from Morley (Mînî Thnî) to Calgary and back, under the heat of the summer sun. And 2024 marks the third year for the walk started by Robbie Daniels in 2022.

The walk serves as a reminder and hopefully some closure to families and friends who’ve lost loved ones to addiction, suicide, or violence. The walk also brings attention to the impact of addiction, overdose, and suicide on Indigenous communities in particular.

Robbie Daniels says, “We have lost so many to addiction. There are still so many stuck in addiction, both on and off the reserves. If we don’t do anything our children and youth will suffer. We are walking to remember those lost to addictions, suicide, and murder.”

The walk was sponsored by Sobercrew Calgary and included ceremonies with speakers, drummers, and performers at Olympic Plaza in Calgary.

The Montgomery Community Association was proud to play a small part, providing the facility for the participants’ breakfast and kick off location for day two of their ‘Journey for Healing’.
