It has been several months since we last published a community newsletter, and during this gap in service, we have formed an exciting new partnership with Great News Media. Moving forward, Your Nolan Sage Hill will be the official newsletter of the Sage Hill Community Association (SHCA). This is a very exciting time for us, as our readership will grow significantly with the magazine being delivered to almost 5,400 homes in Sage Hill and Nolan Hill each month!

We have been living with COVID for almost six months, and many of our residents have experienced serious hardships with work, childcare, school, finances, sports, and social life. I want everyone to know you are not alone; we are in this together both as a community and a generation. If anyone needs to talk, or needs help navigating support or health services, you can email me directly at [email protected], and I will personally and confidentially use every resource we have to help. We are here as your community service, so please use our resources!

I’d like to thank two of our joint community’s sports providers, FC Metro and Sportball, who both ran reduced-capacity programs this summer in Sage Hill (and Kincora). It was wonderful to see kids participating in summer sports again. Given current circumstances, registration was down, which has affected our operating budget by approximately 75% as we are heavily reliant on sport registrations for revenue. The Community Association needs memberships to fund events, programs, festivals, and also to advertise these programs. We also have administrative costs, such as website hosting, insurance, a post office box, maintenance of our skating rink, three little libraries, and our storage shed. A Community Association’s mandate is to enhance daily life for our residents through sports, social programs and advocacy, but did you know we also act as your advocate to school boards, the City of Calgary, the Province and also the Federal Government? Our volunteers do much more than events and sports, and I have to ask everyone here, if you can support us for $25 per year, please purchase a membership at www.sagehillyyc.com. With a household membership, you receive free entrance to our events, voter eligibility at Special or General Meetings, as well as rights to see our financials and meeting minutes, and even attend monthly board meetings. Members also receive the Symons Valley Discount Card, which provides discounts at many local businesses in the area. For information on the discount card or if you want to sign your business up, please visit www.symonsvalley.ca.

Keep an eye on your mailbox for the upcoming October issue where we will be announcing our newly elected board, information on this year’s outdoor ice rink, and hopefully some near-future events.
