Hello Neighbours,

I hope you are all staying warm and looking forward to all the festivities December brings. Obviously, this year, celebrations with family and friends might look a little different. While it may not be the large parties and huge dinners we are used to, it’s an excellent opportunity to continue practicing cohort socializing, social distancing, and of course, staying home when feeling ill. Whatever you are celebrating this year, whether it be Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice, or any other special events, we extend our warmest well wishes, and hope you truly enjoy your celebration!

The Community Association is working on some entertaining new initiatives this winter to help get people out in the neighbourhood. We are currently looking for eight to ten volunteers to help maintain our Crockicurl rink this winter season. Haven’t heard of Crockicurl? It is a larger than life, ice version, of the beloved Crokinole board game. To sign up to volunteer, please email [email protected].

Also, the City of Calgary has allowed community associations to purchase extended season green space permits for winter fire pits. From November 1 until March 31, we will be having pop-up fire pit locations throughout the neighbourhood. We would love to hear from you where you think some great sites would be in the neighbourhood to activate! Get your cohorts and bring your own chairs to roast marshmallows in the park, enjoy the heat while playing Crokicurl, or whatever else you can think of. We will be posting locations on our Facebook page and in upcoming Hello Acadia’s.

While winter block parties may not be a thing we can execute this year due to COVID restrictions, it’s never too early to start building some community spirit on your block. Are you curating a stunning light display? We would love to collect your address and get a walking tour built out for people to enjoy from December 20 until December 31. To get your house on the Acadia light tour map, please email us at [email protected].

As always, I encourage you to join our Facebook page @AcadiaToday to keep up to date with neat new initiatives. We would also love to hear from you! Send us your ideas of what you would like to see and do in our neighbourhood. How can you get a hold of us? It’s easy, email us at (yep, you guessed it at this point) [email protected].
