Hello Neighbours,

Welcome to spring! It’s only a matter of time before we welcome warmer weather and a greener landscape back into our community. As we look forward, we also would like to look back and thank each of you that was able to join us at our Winter Bonanza Event that was held in late February. Over 100 people joined us to take part in the festivities, this event was hosted in collaboration with local artists and businesses. The Winter Bonanza saw balloon twisting, caricature drawing, a petting zoo, and some delicious freebies. We’re marking this event down as a success! If you were there and had a favourite activity that you’d like to see again, be sure to let us know.

This event would not be possible without our amazing volunteers and dedicated board members. As we see COVID-19 restrictions lifted, our community team is ramping up for an exciting year. As such, we are actively seeking new board and community members to help us. We have identified several key areas we require assistance with and have established proposed committees for each. These areas are:

  • Community Engagement
  • Grants and Fundraising
  • Acadia Roadways
  • Communications
  • Planning and Development
  • Special Projects

We know we have a diverse skill set in Acadia, so if any of these areas pique your interest, please contact us today by emailing [email protected]. This is an amazing opportunity to get to know your community from an entirely new perspective and meet committed members in your neighbourhood. You’ve never been part of a board before? Don’t worry! We have a supportive team that will walk you through an onboarding process so you can bring your passion and enthusiasm and get started as quickly as possible. Plus, volunteering always looks great on a resume!

Finally, we have some exciting news to share with all of you; Acadia is getting a new playground! I’m sure most of you have enjoyed one or more of our city playgrounds over the past two decades. It’s now time for us to start updating these playgrounds and have identified the first one. The playground located at Addison Place SE is the first one on our list. This playground hosts a large number of families and is right next to our popular Adopt-A-Rink. If you have not been to this area in Acadia during the winter or summer, it is a hidden gem. Please look for our full-page information sheet in this month’s newsletter and contact our amazing playgrounds committee if you have any questions or are able to help us out. Their email address is [email protected].
