Parade of Garage Sales

We had an exceptional turnout of both sellers and buyers for our Parade of Garage Sales on Saturday, April 26, sponsored by Ed Belanger of Real Estate Professionals Inc. We had our second highest number of sales with 45 this year (record year in 2019 was 47) and combined with a stellar weather day, the sales and traffic were heavy and brisk! Thank you so much to our sellers and Fairview residents who came out en masse to buy and a big thank you to Ed Belanger for his ongoing sponsorship of the event. Looking forward to 2026!

Spring Fling

First, the Fairview Community Association and the Spring Fling volunteers want to say a big special thank you to long-time volunteer Randy Wentz, who has been a mainstay of Spring Fling for many, many years, but retiring this year. Randy has operated a backhoe at our event helping move large loads around the site and crush/lift larger metal items into our bin, which has been enormously helpful. We will miss him around the event. Thank you, Randy!

We held another very successful Spring Fling Community Cleanup event on Sunday, May 4.

The day was a bit cooler, but just right for the physical jobs. We raised $300 in donations and just shy of $200 in our concession. Thank you for your support!

We had a couple of hiccups during the day as our donation organization did not show up and one of the city packing trucks required some maintenance (and as a result a delayed return back into usage) due to large volumes of OSB boards! We will be better in 2026!

And on a “I can’t believe it” note, we had an unexpected low flyover of two CF-18 Hornets halfway through the event!

We couldn’t make this event such a success without the help of many volunteers. A huge shout out to those who stepped up to help with this event! And also, a big thank you to our Spring Fling partners: The City of Calgary, Technotrash, EVRAZ Metal, Action Tyre, and NaAC!

On the volunteer note, however, we are also thin on helpers for Spring Fling (and other events). This event is clearly in very high demand for Fairview residents, but we really need more people at the event to help share the load, speed up the line, and clean up our community. This is a fun event, and volunteers always rave about how enjoyable it is (especially crushing garbage!). Please consider stepping up to help next year.

Bottle Drive

Our 15th Annual Bottle Drive had not taken place by the time of June’s newsletter deadline. Update in next month’s newsletter!
