At the time of writing (early September), construction was just beginning on the bicycle pump track portion of the Flint Park Revitalization. City crews are stripping and grading the site prior to our contractor “Bike-Track LTD” starting to shape the berms and rollers and then finishing them with asphalt.
Construction should be wrapping up by mid-to-late October, depending on the weather. It is too early to determine when the track can open to the public, but rest assured we want to get it open as soon as possible. We know there are lots of people excited to give it a try!
Sod will have to be planted, watered, and established all around the track before it can open, so please respect any fences or signs closing off the track until that happens.
Look for updates on the Fairview website, Facebook page, or refer to the sandwich board signs at the park for more updates later in October. Since most of the track build will be highly specialized with the use of heavy machinery, there are not going to be any volunteer opportunities for Fairview residents at this time. We haven’t given up on the bouldering rocks portion of the park either, but we will need to work to secure funding for those at a later date, so they won’t be going in this year.
Lastly, this project wouldn’t be possible without the help we’ve received via funding and donations from AGLC, The Parks Foundation Calgary (via their Conceptual Drawing Grant and Building Communities Grant), NAK Design Strategies, The City of Calgary, Calgary Aggregate Recycling, Alberta Construction Rentals and Maglin Site Furniture.
