Mid-Sun Social Seniors’ Card Group
Welcome to the first full month of spring. With increased daylight hours and warmer days, many seniors are anticipating the gardening season or the opportunity to venture outdoors with a lighter jacket. It is the season to walk, bike, watch grandkids at sports or sit in the sun. Our eyes search the trees for the first robin and the earth for the first green sprouts of grass, dandelions, tulips, and crocuses. If you were eager for spring, you may have forced blooms indoors and are now enjoying their beauty in your home.
For those who wish to try something new, refresh your card-playing skills, or build new social connections this spring, we invite you to “check us out” or inquire about our activities. The seniors’ group gathers each week to play a variety of cards and games and to visit. In addition, we meet each month at a local venue for an early dinner in good company. Evening bingo, potlucks at the lake, speakers, and various other activities are planned throughout the year.
Mid-Sun Seniors proudly supports the Calgary Veteran’s Food Bank. In January and February, we contributed 131 non-perishable food items, weighing 179 pounds, and a cash donation. We also collect items for the animals at AARCS animal rescue.
April Activities:
Weekly Card and Games: Thursday, April 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30. 10:00 am to 12:00 noon or 1:30 to 3:30 pm.
Two sessions are offered each day. The afternoon time is well attended. The morning session usually has seats available. Please join us to determine if this activity interests you. No experience necessary as we are excellent no-pressure teachers. We play for fun!
Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre: Friday, April 17, 5:30 to 9:00 pm.
For the first time, MSCA and Mid-Sun Seniors will host a dinner theatre.
Pegasus Performances will present Murder Via Rail in the MSCC gym. Buffet catered by Alpine Catering. Please contact MSCC for information and ticket availability (403-254-8058).
Bingo: Monday, April 27, 6:30 to 8:30 pm. MSCC Multi-Purpose Room.
Our caller will lead ten varied games, each with a cash prize. Bingo cards are $5 per pack of ten (one card for each game) payable upon registration. You may purchase more than one pack. Coffee and tea are provided. Chips, bottled water, and chocolate bars are available at a small cash concession. Registration and MSCC membership are required to participate.
Pub Lunch: Tuesday, April 28, 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.
This month’s location is Cattle Baron (33 Sun Valley Blvd SE). Each participant is responsible for their own transportation, bill, and tip. This is an opportunity to relax while enjoying excellent menu items and engaging in great conversation.
