Winter Has Arrived

Happy New Year Midnapore!

Please keep your eye on our website, www.midnaporelake.ca, or our Facebook page for updated park and office hours, ice conditions, and operational limitations.

Please remember that helmets are strongly recommended for skating and tobogganing. Have fun and be safe!

2025 Invoicing

Please be advised that invoices for 2025 fees were generated on November 15, 2024. These invoices were due and payable before January 1, 2025.

2025 Invoices, where possible, were distributed by email. Moving to e-invoicing for the Midnapore Lake Residents Association has the benefit of being both greener and significantly more affordable. When you make your payment this year, please update your email address with the office so we have an accurate email for 2026.

Any accounts with outstanding balances as of January 31, 2025, will be denied access to the park.

Midnapore Lake Bookings

President’s Message

It’s good to be out enjoying the winter sports at the lake. Thank you to all of you who came out to skate with Santa with Christmas lights a glow in December. As we make our way through the colder months, you’ll see skaters on the lake and the ice fisherman. Park staff use a drone to monitor ice conditions, as well as a guided measuring system. Ice safety is a high priority, and the lake ice is constantly changing through the winter. Please be mindful to keep your distance if you see a marked off area.

Did you know that we occasionally get a few wild visitors through the winter. Coyotes will come from neighbouring Fish Creek Park to see if there are fish on the ice surface. They usually breeze through late at night or in the wee hours of the morning. How do the fish end up on the ice? Mid-winter they may be left by a fisherman… but if there is an opening in the ice the fish do jump and sometimes miscalculate their landing.

The lake board is working on putting together a member survey. It has been five years since our last survey, and we are interested in feedback on how we can continue to meet our mission to be an outstanding outdoor recreational hub in the community. Please watch for that on social media and email in the coming months.

Our lake is a very special part of our community. There is something for everyone. If you aren’t planning to skate or toboggan this winter – I encourage you to just come out with a cup of hot chocolate and sit by the fire.

See you at the lake,

Jen Hawkins
