Willow Ridge’s April President’s Message

If you are not able to attend our AGM and Social on April 29, I wanted to highlight some of your Board’s activities since our last annual meeting.

Completing our $3 million building renovation/expansion is obviously the biggest accomplishment. We have some more work to do, but I think our hundreds of daily users are very happy with our new and improved space.

We have a new website with online membership payments as well as online payments for our other programming. This will streamline our business processes in the future. We also upgraded our accounting system so that our reporting and budgeting should be easier and more flexible.

In order to serve our growing list of facility users, we moved to a new staffing model, with a full time General Manager and part time Support Person. This change was a challenging but necessary move to ensure our viability in our new building.

Looking forward, we now have to pay attention to our other community facilities, so our highly used rink boards and tennis/sport courts are on the list for repair/replacement this summer and fall. We also hope to get an elevator installed and complete some exterior landscaping.

We will need to review and update our business plan this year, to help us guide our way forward. Any thing else that we hope to accomplish will depend on the number of volunteers that decide to join the Board.

In closing, I would like to thank a few local businesses that stepped up in the past year to offer significant support. Western Securities, the owners of Willow Park Village, provided our office staff a place to work, rent free, for almost a full year during our renovations. Home Depot donated significant labour and materials to replace many of our community garden beds. The Italian Centre donated a significant number of gift cards to help in our 2018 Membership Drive.
