Happy New Year! Ready for some good news? The Strathcona Christie Aspen Community Association (SCA) is planning to renovate the tennis courts in the spring. With funding help from the City of Calgary, the Capital Conservation Grant, and in partnership with Parks Foundation Calgary, the SCA can move forward with renovating the SCA tennis courts. You can help too! Our partnership with Parks Foundation Calgary allows the SCA to accept donations for this project through Parks Foundation Calgary and they will issue tax receipts. All donations must be made payable to Parks Foundation Calgary. You can use the link below to donate online (the link is also available SCA website at www.scacalgary.ca).

You can also send donations to Parks Foundation Calgary, 255 – 13 Ave SW, Calgary, Alberta, T2R 1N8. Cheques must be made payable to Parks Foundation Calgary. Indicate on the cheque that the donation is for the SCA and make sure your cheque has your contact information on it for tax receipt purposes.

The SCA cannot issue tax receipts for donations made payable to the ‘SCA’ – donations must be made through Parks Foundation Calgary if you want a tax receipt. Donations are open to residents, retailers, and businesses. We need everyone’s help!

Telus has contributed to the renovation of the tennis courts as well to ensure that pickle ball lines are included in the project and will partner with SCA in the spring to celebrate the completion of the project. It is their way of saying thank you to residents for their patience while Telus builds new fibre optic internet infrastructure.

The SCA has been trying for a very long time to get this project done. When COVID hit, the SCA suffered a crippling loss of revenue and we realized we would not be able to fund the renovation of the tennis courts ourselves. With help from the City, Parks Foundation Calgary, and residents we are now confident that this project will move forward. This has been a bright light during a difficult time, and we look forward to celebrating the success of the project!

A big shout out to the SCA rink volunteers. They had the ice ready as soon as possible and continue to maintain the skating surfaces. There are signs posted that currently limit the use of the rinks and I ask that residents please follow the rules. The City can ask us to shut the rinks if protocols are not followed. Someone asked me “well how would you close the rinks?”. Sadly, I would just ask volunteers to allow the ice to fail and all their hard work disintegrate. So please follow the rules posted at the rinks if you want to continue to use these terrific outdoor resources. New signs will be posted as rules change.

The SCA continues to host online programming. Please check the website (www.scacalgary.ca) for more information, program registration and renewal of community memberships. The SCA website is also a great resource for information – take a moment to check it out.

The SCA’s front doors remain locked to ensure COVID protocols are followed. I have my fingers crossed that will change sooner rather than later.
