CKE’S April President’s Message

Hi Neighbors,

There’s a lot going on in the community these days so keep an eye out for email blasts and the CKE website for more details, but I’ll try and capture most here…

First off, a huge thank you to the Rink Crew for all their hard work this season; we had some of the best ice conditions in the city. It was great seeing the kids back out there this year and I’m looking forward to jumping back on a crew next year.

The rumour is true, Wine & Whiskey is back again and will be held at our new community centre on Saturday, May 23. If you have not been before, make sure you get your tickets as soon as you can as this event sells out annually and is one the best events of the year. We are looking for committee volunteers so if you’re interested, please reach out to Erin for opportunities. I hope to see everyone there.

Registration is open for both Heritage Soccer, tennis and pickle ball. Soccer runs from April 30 to June 23 this year. We are very hopeful to have our tennis courts redone in the spring and will include a redesign with two tennis courts and two pickle ball courts.

We’ve hosted a couple of successful open gym afternoons and will continue to look for opportunities to add more. If you are interested in hosting an open gym event for specific age groups, please reach out to our hall manager Jen ([email protected]) for details. Please note that these are not CKE Community Association events but rather, parent-organized and supervised.

Don’t forget to keep the hall in mind for your next event or if you are looking to join a club or class. The Board will be hosting a Programming Open House on April 13 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. You’ll have an opportunity to meet the program providers, see what they have to offer and ask any questions you might have. There will also be representatives from the board as we are looking for new board members for the upcoming year (AGM is in May).

You may have seen information from the Board, the City and Ward 11 going around about the Guidebook to Great Communities. I would highly recommend going to the City of Calgary’s website to learn more about the program and what their strategy is for future development. Council is voting on the program on April 27. There are opportunities for the public to share their concerns and we would highly recommend that residents to do so by sending letters to Councillor Farkas and/or other members of Council.

As I write this message to our community, new developments regarding the COVID-19 continue to roll in. If CKE community programming or events are impacted by these developments, we will do our best to inform our neighbours in a timely manner.

Merritt Ranseth
