Update/Q&A from MLA Demetrios Nicolaides
- Ring Road is currently proceeding on time.
- Extended Legislature to meet well into July for a special summer session.
- Economic Recovery Plan being announced on June 29
- Later in the summer there will be a fiscal update that will reflect the planned deficit of $5 Billion being increased to approx. $20 Billion due to Covid and collapse of energy prices.
- Fair Deal Report has just been released and the government will be taking a closer look at those recommendations
Presentation from President – AM
- Currently CHPH High School students from our Community are temporarily slotted to attend Central Memorial rather than Ernest Manning. Community Association is unhappy about that. There is a Facebook Group “West Calgary Catholic High School Advocacy Group” that has a petition to sign to try and get the City to make a High School in West Calgary a priority.

- 2019 Financials are ready to send to Auditors.
- 3 New Auditors to be appointed/approved in Fall Special Meeting
- The AGLC account funds are required to be use by October 2021.
Presentation of Yearly Events

- Movie-In-The-Park Event Cancelled due to COVID-19.
- Stampede Breakfast – Cancelled due to COVID-19.
- Parade of Garage Sales – Cancelled due to COVID-19
- Parade of Christmas Lights – 11 homes participated in 2019 and 10 local business contributed to our prize gift baskets. We will continue to host this event for 2020.
- Adopt-A-Rink – The rink saw a lot of usage over the Christmas Holidays and during the evenings.
- The Annual Skating party was held on Boxing Day with help from Volunteers who put on a very successful event. The 2020 Skating Party is TBD due to COVID-19.
Other:
- Once the AGLC funds expire in 2021, CHPH will need Volunteers to help work Casinos in order to receive new funding from AGLC. 40 Volunteers are needed to run a Casino, the Board is 10 People so we will be relying heavily on Member Volunteers. Due to the fact CHPH does not have a Community Center, the Community Association’s main source of revenue is from Membership Sales and Yearly Events, in this regard the AGLC funds are a big help to run our Community Association and help us better our Community.
- The Board has 2 goals:
- A permanent rink/sports hub (we are working with the City to determine what/where our Community could possibly install a more permanent rink/sports hub with the AGLC funds.)
- A Community Sign to post events being held in our community.
- The CA’s Little Free Library (a joint venture with the City) is located on Coach Ridge Rise
- Bow Trail Pathway
- Worked to raise the berm at 69th Street and add more spruce trees along pathway to alleviate noise concerns.
- Developer agreed to upgraded to black fencing along the path versus standard chain-link.
- 311 was contacted after a number of complaints of the pathway not being cleared of snow in the winter, and the pathway is now on the City’s list for snow clearing.
- Following up on weeds currently along pathway.
- Traffic
- The Old Banff Coach Road/Bow Trail widening and additional turn lane has as helped alleviate traffic congestion during peak traffic times.
- Met with City last fall to voice concerns over speed along Coach Hill Road between the intersections with Old Banff Coach Road. A study found speed to be excessive so City will be working to find traffic calming measures.
- Concerns with noise and speed concerns along Old Banff Coach Road. A study has been postponed until Council determines whether they will raise/lower/maintain the 50km/h City speed limits.
*All residents in CHPH are encouraged to report any traffic issues to “311 Service Request” so that there can be a record made, and to submit your Service Request # to [email protected] so that we can follow up. A Traffic Service Request can be also submitted through the Calgary Police Service for ongoing speed/safety issues.
- Potholes
- Various potholes were brought to the attention of the Ward 6 Office and are on the agenda to be dealt with by the City. Paving took place on a portion Patina Drive SW over the summer and there is further paving tentatively scheduled for the remainder of Patina Drive, as well as Coach Hill Road in 2021.
- Community Garden – Interest has been shown in having a CHPH Garden. The Board is asking for Volunteers that would like to form a Community Garden Committee and spearhead this project.
Membership
- Ross Hart will be taking over the Membership Coordinator role.
- March Door knocking campaign was cancelled due to COVID-19, will reschedule once allowed.
- 2 Volunteers offered to help with a Membership Drive when re-scheduled.
- Currently 214 Members, with 93 Active.
- Our website has been updated to allow for Members to register on-line and choose auto-renew.
Expansion and Development – TK
- Trico Development – Coach Ridge Estates, 21 lots for single family homes.
- Land Use Amendment/Development Permit Application submitted @ Coach Way Road Backyard Suite on top of a garage was defeated due to lack of engagement with neighbouring property owners. Applicant can re-apply after October 27, 2020.
