The coronavirus continues to take its toll on our plans for activities for the community. The ECCA Board held its first Zoom online meeting in May. We had to bow to the inevitable and make the decision to postpone our Annual General Meeting until some time in the fall. This is usually a well attended event, providing Eau Claire residents with an opportunity to get an update on developments in the community, as well as socializing with neighbours in other buildings. We haven’t set a firm date yet but watch this newsletter and our website for updates.
The COVID pandemic and related shutdown has obviously been a trying time for many Eau Claire businesses. One of the great benefits of living here has always been the variety of good restaurants available to residents, but some are now struggling. At the last board meeting, we agreed to post on the ECCA website a list of the neighbourhood restaurants that are providing either delivery or curbside pickup service. I’ve been using a number of them and encourage any Eau Claire residents who can to do so to help support our local businesses.
As I write this, there are hopeful signs emerging of some businesses opening up to somewhat more normal operation along with signs, at last, of spring and warmer weather. It will seem a lot more welcome this year than ever, after being kept inside for so long, even if not required to strictly self-isolate. The challenge of course is that with everyone anxious to enjoy our neighbourhood outdoors, maintaining safe distancing can require more care, especially in popular locations like our parks and river pathway. So, please, continue to take care.
Just a reminder: the ECCA Board doesn’t meet regularly during the summer months. We’ll endeavour to keep you posted nevertheless on community developments through our website and other sources. In the meantime, enjoy your summer and stay well.
