Did you set a new years’ resolution to try something new? The Glenbrook Community Association is pleased to offer a number of free daytime clubs and groups throughout the week, as well as special one-off events and opportunities. If you are interested in trying out one or more of these, please email [email protected] to let us know which one(s) you are looking to join. If you would like to come to any on a regular basis, a Glenbrook community membership is requested, but not mandatory.
Tai Chi
Stability, balance, and flexibility are very important as you age. This program can help you improve these factors and decrease health risks. Join your neighbours for gentle exercise and breathing. Bring dry shoes and a name tag.
Upcoming Dates: January 9, 16, 23, 30 (all Tuesdays) at 10:00 am

Fun and Games
If you enjoy board and card games, then come along and spend an afternoon with your fellow game-loving neighbours – you won’t be disappointed! During our last gathering, a few knitters also came along and socialized with the members of their group, as both meetings are held at the hall on the same day. We welcome anyone to come and socialize. Decaffeinated coffee and teas will be provided. We hope to see a few new faces!
Upcoming Date: Thursday, January 11 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm

Knitting and Crafts
Winter is a great time to work on your knitting and crocheting. Personally, I am working on changing my style due to an injury on my right hand. While I am doing quite well switching from English style knitting to Continental style, I am finding that switching from right-handed crochet to left-handed is more of a challenge. I plan to keep going until I am successful, as it is always good to have more than one proficient style to help prevent repetitive strain injuries. You can find a variety of hand stretch exercises for knitters and crocheters online.
Upcoming Dates: Thursday, January 11 at 1:00 pm; Thursday, January 24 at 7:00 pm

Our book for January is In Order to Live: A North Korean Girl’s Journey to Freedom by Yeonmi Park. For February, we will be reading The Girl from Guernica by Karen Robards. These books are available through the library.

Crokinole
Do you remember this game? Use your finger and a checker to shoot another one off the board. Look up the rules or reach out to me if you might be interested in getting together with a few others at a convenient time and place to play. It is very sociable and lots of fun!
