Rewiring Me

by Sumia Rabeah

you taught me to hold my tongue

in the face of devils

for their darkness will come to light

you taught me that

they deserve nothing but my silence

let them simmer in it

let them sink as i rise

you taught me that and yet

i cannot hold my tongue

when it comes to you

you make me spill my guts

unbothered to clean up

i bear my soul to you

every time we speak

will i ever unlearn that?
