Glenbrook’s August President’s Message

Hello again Glenbrook,

We are in the thick of summer now – one unlike any we have seen before. COVID-19 has consumed the majority of our daily lives for the past several months – and in many ways, it still does. As businesses and activities start to re-open and resume, it is important not to become complacent. I’d like to use this space for the month of August to repeat important reminders from Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health.

Every one of us is responsible for helping to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and prevention starts with awareness.

  • Practice physical distancing in public spaces.
  • Self-isolate if you are feeling sick in any way.
  • Wash your hands often.
  • Fully cover coughs and sneezes with your elbow.
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • Avoid travel outside of Canada, if possible.

The first point of that list is perhaps the most important step we can take to protect ourselves and others. Even as gathering limits are increased and the weather warms up, remember the following:

  • Limit the number of times you leave your home if you can.
  • When you go out for groceries, medical engagements, or wherever you are going, stay at least two meters away from others if possible. If you can, have groceries or other items delivered.
  • Avoid overcrowding in elevators and other enclosed spaces.
  • Wash or sanitize your hands after touching communal surfaces, such as handrails and door handles.
  • Postpone large gatherings and events with family, friends and other groups – especially if they are to include senior citizens or those with high-risk medical conditions.
  • Do not gather with other people if you have a fever or cough – even if your symptoms are mild.
  • Obey all distancing, gathering, and self-isolation requirements and restrictions in place throughout Alberta.

Please remain safe in Glenbrook, and wherever you go this summer. Reach out to your neighbours in a safe, responsible manner. We are all looking forward to the days when our lives may return completely to normal, but for now, we cannot let our guards down.

Take care,

Murray Ost, President
