Hello again Glenbrook!
I can’t believe it’s November, where did the year go? We have two fun events planned for this month. On the evening of Thursday, November 20, the community association is hosting a Wine Tasting. The event will be put on in partnership with the Wine Shop and J. Webb Wine Merchant. This is the third year we are holding the event, and it’s always a great way to taste some wines from around the world, socialize with neighbours, and celebrate the season in good company.
Then, on Saturday, November 22, we are hosting our Christmas Makers Market at the Community Hall. Come out and celebrate the season by checking out a selection of local vendors, including many from our own community. Discover handmade gifts, festive treats, and one-of-a-kind finds while supporting the talented makers. It is a great opportunity to find a gift for anyone on your Christmas list.
Remembrance Day is on Tuesday, November 11. It is a day dedicated to honouring the sacrifices of military personnel who have served and died in wars and peacekeeping missions through reflection and gratitude, ensuring that their courage and loss is never forgotten. Close to Glenbrook, there is a piece of history associated with World War I: Battalion Park, which commemorates soldiers from four battalions of the Canadian Expeditionary Force who trained in the area. The park displays large numbers on the hillside made by 16,000 stones, representing the battalions that camped there before heading overseas. The stones were placed by the soldiers, later being restored and painted by cadets in 1995, and have become a lasting tribute to the service of their forefathers. The landmark is a visual reminder of Calgary’s role in the war effort, the human cost of conflict, and the enduring legacy of service. I hope you can all take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices of those who served and find gratitude for the freedoms they helped secure.
