Happy October Glenbrook!
Summer has officially come to an end, and traditionally, that means it is time to jump back into the customs of the fall – though of course, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed a lot of our routines this year.
For instance, September saw the routine of our children heading back to school, much differently than they ever have before. The return to school in the midst of COVID-19 is, in a word, controversial – on one hand, many parents rely on in-person classes for their children, as it grants them the ability to work, and support them in turn. On the other hand, families are worried about the uncertain situation they are sending their kids into – this is a position no parent wants to find themselves in. Distance learning, even part of the time, can help address these problems, though this is not possible for every student. No matter what parents decide as the best course of action for their child, know that schools in Glenbrook, and throughout the city, are doing the best they can to support students through this transition.
Another fall custom for the Glenbrook Community Association is October’s Annual General Meeting, which has also undergone significant changes with both pros and cons. Moving to a virtual platform this year helped to keep us distanced and safe, but, in a sense, took away from the personal sense of community that we are always working to build. It also meant that we made the decision to postpone our community awards ceremony for this year. It seemed unfair to award these very deserving individuals and organizations without the community coming together to celebrate. For this reason, our next Glenbrook Lifetime Member and Glenbrook Community Partnership Awards will be given out in October of 2021.
The board of directions began regular meetings in September via Zoom – on which we will likely be meeting for the foreseeable future. Talk to you next month!
