Starting this fall, The City of Calgary is starting a multi-year program to replace water meters in homes and businesses across the city. The new meters are equipped with updated technology that will improve how your water meter readings are collected.

Meter replacements will start in October in the communities of Altadore, Bankview, South Calgary, and Upper Mount Royal. Installations in the other communities in Ward 8 will start in early spring 2026.

Most of Calgary’s current water meters are nearing the end of their typical 15- to 20-year lifespan. The new meters are equipped with advanced reading technology that will continue to ensure billing accuracy and provide customer service enhancements around billing inquiries, leak detection, and support for water conservation.

Watch Your Mailbox

When technicians are in your area, you will receive a letter in the mail from The City with important information on how to book an appointment at a time that is convenient for you.

The meter replacement will not affect your water service, utility bill, billing schedule, or how you receive your bill. The costs of this work are already accounted for in current water utility rates.
