Seniors in the Loop: Seniors Dink and Get Pickled (Rarely!) On The MLCA Pickleball Courts

Every Tuesday and Friday in summer from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm the courts at the Marda Loop Community Center are vibrant with the seniors pickleball group; winter play is at the Rosscarrock gym.

After a short “dinking” (warm-up) session at the nets, it’s serious game time but not without a few laughs in between.

Don’t let the term “seniors” fool you – in fact, best bring your “A” game if you want to challenge one of them! Yes, some seniors may not be as quick or agile as a 30-year-old, but they sure can place the ball.

There may even be blood, sweat, and tears sometimes (well maybe not tears) during those two hours of play. But don’t be alarmed – the blood usually comes after taking a ball on a finger or hitting yourself carelessly with a racquet.

For the guys it’s always a threat when the women say, “ladies against the men”. The threat is real as the guys hang their heads and walk off the court after being pickled.

What’s important more than the play, are the friendships and bonds that are created along the way.

Great fun with great people.
