Summer Greetings to Mount Royal residents!

New mrca.ca Website!

Our new website launched June 1. Many members have visited our new website and we look forward to adding new content in the coming weeks. We have new branding and new content, and we’d like to hear what you think and ideas to make it even better! If you haven’t already, please check it out! mrca.ca.

Membership Drive

MRCA launched a membership drive June 1. We are excited to offer a new, more functional online registration and member communication platform. Within the first two weeks we already signed up 100 new member families, and other families and individuals added tennis memberships using this new platform.

If you are not a member, we’d like to welcome you to join! Please visit our website to learn how you can support your community, membership benefits, and the work your community association does.

If your membership has expired, please renew now. Going forward, you will only receive communication from MRCA if you are a registered member. Stay in touch with news, events, and important updates by renewing online using the new platform.

Current members will now receive a reminder when their membership renewal is due. All memberships are good for 365 days from the date of purchase. We thank the many current members who have updated their information using the new membership platform. This improves our ability to communicate with you on issues that matter. You can indicate your preferences and add family member emails by visiting the membership portal on the website. For questions or assistance, please contact [email protected].

Finally, but importantly, we thank those members who have recently and generously donated through the new platform to MRCA. Your donations support important community infrastructure, programs, and advocacy. Donations are tax deductible – visit mrca.ca to find out how you can help make a difference and support our community.

Mini Mountaineers

In the fall or early 2022 (COVID-19 restrictions pending), we hope to resume the Mini Mountaineers Playgroup. This weekly (Wednesday morning) group offers unstructured parent/caregiver-supervised playtime in a group setting, open to all MRCA member families with children from birth to preschool age. The group is drop-in, free for MRCA members, and located at the Station House. Mini Mountaineers offers a wonderful opportunity for parents, caregivers, and young children to meet other young families and friends in the neighbourhood. Ensure you are an MRCA member, indicate in your member preferences that you’d like updates on preschool programs, and we will reach out once we have a start date. Additionally, we need help from parent volunteers (of young children) to get things up and running (very minimal time commitment); reach out to [email protected] if you are willing to help with this or have questions about the Mini Mountaineers program.

MRCA Member Discounts

We have just initiated our member benefit program! Discounts are now available to MRCA members upon showing their membership cards at local businesses. Members can print or prepare e-membership cards from the membership portal online. Details can be found on the MRCA website; these are updated regularly. Please check the website regularly as new partnerships are in progress and will be added soon.

If you are a local business owner/manager interested in partnering to bring MRCA member business your way, please contact us (see website for details).

Summer Coordinator

We would like to thank two amazing young people from our community who have made a big difference these past few months. Chances are, if you use the Station, you have seen their friendly faces already. For the first time, we hired a Mount Royal Community Coordinator who has been managing several projects at our Mount Royal Community Station and adjacent park. Sophie Pett is a University of Calgary student who lives in Mount Royal, and we are delighted to have her on our team! Sophie has been responsible for leading many tasks at our very busy park, tennis courts, and Station House. She has especially done a fabulous job managing our substantial soccer field rejuvenation project (which has seen improvements of grassy areas throughout the park). In addition, Sophie has been critical in launching our new membership platform, managing our busy tennis and basketball courts, and preparing the Station House for activities again once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. Sophie has been assisted by Gillena Untalan, a Western Canada High School student, who also lives in Mount Royal. We are grateful to these two young community members who have dedicated their time and energy to making our community and its facilities a wonderful place!
