Shout-Out to the PBPCA Rink Crew!
If you read John Kipp’s piece about the extreme cold and snowfall frequency over the Christmas, you’ll understand this little note of appreciation for the PBPCA volunteer Rink Crew. These men not only have to clear their own driveways and sidewalks through the season, but they do it all over again for several hours as they head out to our two PBPCA rinks to clear, sweep, and water the ice! Although the PBPCA equips the crew with an (older) commercial grade sweeper and snowblower, the snowfalls require a lot of physically demanding work. The crew use heavy steel snow scrapers which they push the snow with. Not an easy job in the best conditions!
Please join me in recognizing the contributions of our PBPCA volunteer rink crew led by Trevor Brown and supported by Chris Semmens, Greg Brown, Dave Cedargren, and Sheldon Kashuba. These volunteers work hard creating and maintaining some of the best ice surface in the city and they deserve our appreciation!
Coming Together!
In the December 2021 PBP Matters issue, we asked the community whether there was any interest in getting neighbours together for events such as mini-block parties, thrift marts, wine and beer tasting etc., at the PBPCA centre. The idea was to get people acquainted or re-acquainted after a long COVID lockdown. Aside from a couple of members who showed interest, we have heard nothing – crickets. Now that COVID has subsided, wouldn’t it be fun to get 10 or 20 close neighbours together at the main hall for an evening of wine, music, and reconnection?
I realize that we’re not a large community by comparison and one would think that that our smaller size would encourage more engagement and connection – not less. For starters, we should get our movie aficionados back into our boardroom for their weekly screening. Not only does this room boast an 82” high-definition smart TV, but it’s hooked up hooked up to an amazing Yamaha sound system and is fully Wi-Fi connected. Come together and stream great movies and TV series like Yellowstone, The Gilded Age, Killing Eve, and many more!
If you think there are events we should be organizing, please drop me an email at [email protected].
