Signal Hill: President’s Message

I can’t believe that it has been twelve months since I first had the privilege of writing your messages in this journal as your President. From my perspective, this last year has been one of continuous change and development. We have benefited from the steadfast work of many who have served on the Board for several years. The professionalism of our present Board is amazing! Most of their efforts are unseen, but these efforts are allowing us to start looking for increased activities that will lead to programming and representation that will be active for you and your family members. Let’s see how the summer unfolds.

‘Baby steps’, that is what our Engagement Director would be calling this. It’s a wise choice of words. Capacity would be another prudent choice. I am referring to our ability to offer events and programs and rolling these out to you. You will see a Food Truck event in August; see the advertisements in this issue of the View. A trial program for Pickleball Courts is now operational. Times are weekdays from 5:00 to 8:30 pm and weekends from 9:00 am to 8:30 pm. These times are subject to change.

Last month, I was alerted to a rash of plaques being stolen throughout the community, including the cenotaph. It has heightened the fear factor in what is a very safe community, one of the safest in the entire city. Many will call it a desecration of the Cenotaph, which included the taking of some flags. As a community, we are appalled that individuals would stoop to such a low; frightening the most vulnerable in our community. Your Association is working with Calgary Police Services, the City, and others to see what we can do to repair such damage.
