Happy New Year Southwood! I hope you and your loved ones had a great holiday.

The City of Calgary is in the process of gathering feedback on the Heritage Local Area Plan. Some of you may have noticed the newest Little Free Engagement Library at the community hall. If you have a chance, please leave comments on this project. For more information on this project please visit: https://engage.calgary.ca/heritage or reach out to me directly – I thoroughly enjoy talking planning!

Over the past couple of months, there has been chatter on Facebook regarding increases in car prowling’s (break-ins and smashed windows). There are many frustrated community members and I completely appreciate where you are coming from. We, as a board, have discussed these matters with Councillor Penner, as well as our Community Police Officer and they both cannot stress how important it is for those affected by these incidents to report them through the non-emergency line. I get you may find this answer extremely frustrating, however, for the city and police to know there are problems, they need to be reported. As soon as you notice any disturbance to property, whether private or public, or see any activities that are questionable, please report them. Over the next couple of months, I will work with our Councillor, Community Police Officer, and not-for-profits to hopefully find solutions to these challenges.

We are still awaiting the release of our casino dates and with that we will require several volunteers to help. The casinos are amazing funding opportunities for the community association, with over $65,000 coming from the two days we dedicate there! The money that we raise during this time allows us to maintain the community hall as well as provide you with programming. Please reach out to [email protected] if you are interested in helping.

Thanks, and all the best!

Becky
