I wasn’t sure spring was really coming – we were stuck in one of the coldest winters I can remember. Relaxation of COVID protocols have been announced and it may mean we can have backyard barbecues again! Also coming up this spring is the SCA Casino on May 21 and 22 and we still need volunteers. Casino funds provide the SCA with funds that cover all the utility bills. COVID has been hard on the bottom line and the SCA is grateful to be back in the casino rotation and we would really appreciate your support by volunteering for a shift. The volunteer link is on the SCA website, www.scacalgary.ca.

The City of Calgary has an engagement page for people who want to express their views – go to engage.calgary.ca and comment. Also, the city planning map at https://developmentmap.calgary.ca/ is a great resource for staying up to date on new development in your community.

I want to take a moment to thank all the rink volunteers. The two skating rinks at the SCA are entirely maintained by a great group of volunteers – they do all the flooding and shovelling! If you helped out this winter the SCA and community thank you very much!

Speaking of snow shovelling – if we have a spring snowfall, please do not shovel the tennis courts – shovelling damages the surfaces. Be patient it will all melt soon enough!

It is that time of year again when I take over the kitchen table with all my seedlings. Seeing the first little green shoot pop up just makes me happy – I may be complaining later when we eat zucchini at every meal for days on end, but it really is amazing how that bountiful harvest starts with a tiny seedling. Happy Spring!
