Happy New Year from the staff and students at St. Teresa of Calcutta. This year we celebrate as our District faith theme: ‘Ask and it will be given you’ (Matthew 7:7). This is a calling for us to focus on prayer. Pope Francis explains prayer as ‘We pray for the hungry. We feed them. That’s how prayer works.’ At St. Teresa of Calcutta, we are called to action through prayer. During this New Year, St. Teresa will continue to be looking at different ways, we as a school community can ‘open wide’ our hearts and show mercy through prayer.
We have many things to be proud of during the first portion of our school year as we respond through prayer. These initiatives include:
- Terry Fox Run/Walk in support of Cancer Research.
- Jacket Racket
- Vincent de Paul Food drive to support families in need before the Christmas hamper campaign at the end of October.
- Poppy Fund to support our veterans
- Mission Mexico – to support educational programs, and support human rights issues in Guerro Mexico – one of the poorest regions in Mexico.
- Vincent de Paul Food drive to support families in need after the Christmas Hamper campaign.
The response to each and every one of these initiatives has been tremendous. Special thanks to our St. Teresa of Calcutta community and to all our students for their continued commitment to service learning.
We have currently raised over 25,000 dollars to support the construction of our new playground. Very special thanks to our families for all their support with our Foundation initiatives as well as the school council initiatives to support educational enhancements in our school.
Students from kindergarten to grade 2 were excited to come back from their Christmas break to a full week of Alien in Line skating. Instructors from Alien In Line Skating focus on skill building and safety. At the end of January, we are excited to invite Canadiana Musical Theatre Company for a special presentation; The Birth of the CPR.
As we move through the later part of another exciting year at St. Teresa of Calcutta, we look forward to more great events. In January we have our Parent Information evening for families interested in French Immersion. Le Carnaval takes place in the first week of February, Grade 3 and 4 students will be participating in swimming lessons at Acadia Pool near the end of February and in the middle of March we have a family dance.
