Our district covers the communities of: Edgemont, Evanston, Hamptons, Hidden Valley, Hanson Ranch, Kincora, Nolan Hill, Sherwood and Sage Hill. We have units for all age groups – Sparks (ages 5-6), Brownies (ages 7-8), Guides (ages 9-12), Pathfinders (ages 12-15) and Rangers (ages 15-17). You can register online through www.girlguides.ca. Registration is ongoing for the current year until March, then open registration for next year starts in early June.
Here’s some of the highlights of what we were up to recently.
The 4th guides have had a busy few months! Our first camp was a chilly one in September, we were not expecting to have to tent in the snow! However, the girls were prepared and had an amazing time. We celebrated the Christmas season with the seniors at the Holy Cross Manor in Evanston, carolling and making ornaments to brighten their homes. The unit finished off 2017, honing our pottery skills at 4Cats Studio, each girl created a unique fox mug. It was so much fun! With a visit to YouthLink at the Calgary Police Interpretative Centre, a sleepover at Kyle Shewfelt Gymnastics, and Girl Guides Movie Day at Landmark Cinemas, 2018 has had an excellent start!
As a district, we are looking forward to spring cookies 0 the classic Girl Guide cookies—chocolate and vanilla!—to arrive this month. Watch for us in your local supermarkets, and likely door to door sales as well. Cookies are still only $5 each and are the only sanctioned way for Girl Guides to fundraise (we have to apply for approval for other fundraisers). So please support our girls in their cookie fundraiser this spring! It takes a lot of courage for some girls to ask, “Would you like to buy a box of Girl Guide cookies?”
