Hawkwood’s President’s Message for January

As I compose this message, our brand new Outdoor Recreational Facility (aka ORF) is just getting some finishing touches done on it before it gets too cold. Our November was unseasonably warm and that enabled the contractor to get as much work done as possible. So, hopefully by the time this Hawkwood newsletter hits your mailbox, residents will be using the facility. This is an exciting time for Hawkwood, as we see the fruits of our labours – an idea that has been kicked around for over 15 years! HCA also had its AGM on November 30, and it was an online meeting for the second year in a row. I want to thank all for attending, as well as our special guests. I also want to welcome Jerry Christensen as our new Facility Director, who will be tasked with helping out at the ORF. Jerry is a long-time Hawkwood resident and is very familiar to anyone who has helped with any of the tot lot or playground installations that have happened over the last decade or so. At HCA, we are glad to have Jerry come on board, and we are sad to see some Directors leave us. Christina Barr (Memberships), Matt and Robin Skeoch (Webmasters), and Kathryn Wagner (Hawkwood School Liaison) have decided to retire from the Board. I want to thank each of them for stepping up and volunteering for us over the years – we will miss you all! This opens up some opportunities for others in Hawkwood to lend us a hand. If you have a wee bit of spare time, would like to meet new people, and help Hawkwood thrive, then please send an email to [email protected] and we can chat on how you might be able to help us. Finally, I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I hope we get to spend time with our loved ones over the holidays and I really do hope that 2022 brings us more joy than sadness for a change.
