Oakridge Community Garden (OCG) September Update

We are nearing the end of our fifth growing season. We have had several successful ‘Work Bees’ to maintain the perennial garden, the vertical garden, and general maintenance of the OCG shed, compost bins, and communal plants around our perimeter.

We want to recognize some of our OCG volunteers; Ron, Lou, Suzanne, Katie, and Mike for their watering and weeding, table building, and water tote filling respectively.

We plan on holding an ice cream evening for all OCG members and volunteers on September 12 or 19, weather dependent.

We also want to thank Youth Central and their volunteers who completed a wooden floor for the Gazebo, benches for the Gazebo, edging for the mulch pathways, and planting of additional perennial shrubs.

We plan on having a final Project Day with Youth Central on Saturday, September 21 to sand and stain the benches and picnic tables, install some more edging and mulch, and tidy up the gravel around the Gazebo, ahead of using it for the Family Skating rink this winter.

Once again, we are planning for 2025, our sixth growing season, to ensure a focus on long-term sustainment. We have three individuals on our waitlist for next year. Join our Level One this year, learn about us, and volunteer as this will give you early notice for renting a raised bed in 2025.

Come volunteer and join the exciting garden group.
