Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Halloween

I would like to take this opportunity to wish the residents of Ward 2 a Happy Thanksgiving. I know for many Calgarians, this past year has been a tough one, particularly with continued economic challenges in our province. However, there is still lots to be grateful for at this time of year. I want to extend a thank you to every resident who has volunteered in their neighbourhood and who has emailed my office to express concerns or suggestions on how to improve our community.

Transportation continues to be a top priority for me in Ward 2. As of September 3rd, there have been numerous enhancements to Calgary Transits service schedule in Ward 2. These include:

  • Route 82 in Nolan Hill has added a new weekday 6:10pm trip from Brentwood Station and a new weekday 5:29pm trip from Nolan Hill toward Brentwood Station;
  • Route 123 has added a new stop on Eastbound Sage Hill Gate at 37th Street NW;
  • Route 124 weekday afternoon peak times have been adjusted to accommodate students; and
  • The Red Line C-Train weekday peak trip times have been revised to improve service from the N.W.

The Federal Government will be legalizing cannabis on October 17th. I have been working hard to ensure that the adverse effects of cannabis legalization are minimized in Calgary, such as, not allowing cannabis to be consumed in public locations where children may be present. Also, implementing a 30-metre separation between cannabis stores and places of worship, pawnshops and payday loan operators.

Halloween night is fast approaching, and I would just like to remind residents to take the necessary safety precautions to ensure a fun night for all. Parents, try to ensure your child’s costume is visible to drivers. Drivers, please slowdown in our communities and drive with extra care on Halloween.
