Happy Easter Ward 12- Spring has sprung and Council remains buzzing with activity!

The Shepard Landfill Throw ‘n’ Go will accept waste from residential customers between April 3 and October 26, Tuesday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

I was frustrated with the initial proposed service changes for the Shepard facility. I wanted to see some form of public service still included in the hours offered. Thankfully my team and I were able to successfully negotiate to have the “throw and go” at Shepard open to residential traffic from Tuesday-Friday starting in the end of April until the end of October. This window is when nearly 90% of our residential customers make use of the Shepard facility. At Council on Monday, January 29, 2018, the Director of Waste and Recycling Services informed council that Shepard Throw and Go facility will now be open to residential customers.

The Throw ‘n’ Go accepts household chemicals, paint, electronics, appliances, tires, yard waste, separated construction and demolition materials (asphalt shingles, drywall, construction lumber), and garbage that is too bulky for your black cart. Charges may apply.

I want to see residential services expanded beyond this, keeping in mind the budgetary constraints. I’d like to see a scenario where we open up a few waste transfer stations through the city that could augment the service already being offered. I will continue my discussions with Administration going in the months to follow.

Ward 12 annual Transportation Tour has been scheduled for May 04, 2018.

We are in the process of building our ‘commute route’ of where we will take senior leadership from Transportation and Roads, to point out street safety concerns residents live with on a daily basis. Please let Shannon from my office know what problems areas you experience in your community – that you would like us to look at [email protected].
