As we approach the holiday season, I’m thankful for the people who hold our community together. Whether it’s the nurses who care for us when we’re ill, or the teachers who work so hard to support our kids, or the non-profit workers who bring holiday spirit to less fortunate families across the city, we are lucky to have so many talented, big-hearted, community-minded people in this great province.
I’m also mindful that this is an especially difficult holiday season for many families, with prices of food and other essentials going through the roof. As a member of the Alberta NDP Caucus, I have been advocating to the provincial government for real supports for Albertans, from an emergency cap on electricity prices to re-indexing AISH and the Alberta Seniors Benefit. We have also been engaging directly with grocery chains on the price of food. It’s a time to think about others and to help where we can.
Lastly, we have a new Premier, and it’s no secret that she and I have serious differences. I am deeply concerned about the implications for Alberta if Danielle Smith passes her Sovereignty Act, and the truth is this is not a partisan issue: it’s about the future of our province and our country. As your MLA, I believe we need to build relationships, not burn bridges.
I am so proud to be a representative for Calgary, a forward-looking, generous city, and the best place to live in the world. I can’t wait to see what 2023 holds as we work together to make life better in Alberta.
With that, I want to wish you all the best for the holiday season. Please know that my thoughts are with you, and I encourage you to reach out to me and my office if there is anything we can do to support you. You can reach us at [email protected] or 403-244-7737.
Happy Holidays!
