It was a busy month in the constituency. Auburn Heights All Seniors Care had their Seniors Games, and I was honoured to attend the opening ceremony. I attended Holy Child, George Stanley, and Westgate school (not in the constituency) to speak to a total of 194 students about the Alberta Legislature and being an MLA. I always enjoy going to these presentations are hearing that fantastic and original questions the students come up with. I also attended Strathcona Tweedsmuir school to support their students as they presented on non-profit and charitable organizations. Our future is bright!
I met with the Calgary Board of Education School Trustees at the end of February to go over their provincial budget and capital planning. The CBE has released their priority list for provincial funding. Three of the top four schools fall within Calgary-South East constituency:
#1 Mahogany Elementary
#2 Auburn Bay Middle School
#4 2nd Auburn Bay Elementary
I will advocate on behalf of parents and the CBE to get these schools built.
I’ve heard from many constituents regarding the injured black bear at Highway 22 and Springbank Road. My office has advocated on behalf of those concerned and kept in touch with a wildlife biologist who has relayed information on the situation. Alberta Environment and Parks is working collaboratively with Alberta Wildlife Rehabilitation Facilities to develop an orphaned bear cub rehabilitation protocol with the common goal to have this protocol in place prior to the 2018 Spring bear hunt. In moving forward, protocols will be developed collaboratively for the additional species.
