From my family to yours, we wish you all Seasons Greetings, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and all the peace and joy this season brings.
What a year it has been! Our gradual return to ‘normal’ activities has been a relief for all of us. We were able to enjoy many of Calgary’s favourite pastimes including Stampede, Folkfest, and the Pride Festival, which many of us missed these past two years. Celebrating together is part of society’s cohesion and solidifies our bonds with our neighbours.
The past year, the world has witnessed European conflict that many had believed was relegated to the past. Not so, unfortunately – and we need to acknowledge that the world is still, for many, an unsafe place. I am grateful that Canada was able to share our isolated safety with so many of the displaced Ukrainians who came here seeking safety. I am also thankful for the Afghan refugees who have found their way to homes here – though this task has seemed more arduous to accomplish, and my office has worked on many cases brought by applicants from both regions.
We received a record number of immigration, passport, and EI cases this year. Government has seemed to become less efficient at accomplishing services that we once accepted as routine. This has real-world consequences as many people have been left in limbo regarding their immigration and financial status. My staff continue to work tirelessly in assisting those who need assistance, and I receive numerous appreciative responses for the outcomes they have achieved. We are all fortunate for their good work. Please contact my office if you think we can help, in any way.
