As a newcomer to the Renfrew Community Garden, I was a bit nervous but eager to start planting my garden bed. Nothing too complicated, just the beginner veggies: carrots, cucumbers, rutabaga, and beets. Once planted, daily visits to the garden were made to water and nurture the seeds.

As expected, the vegetables grew in time and so did the realization that the garden was more than just tending to garden beds. The garden had its own quiet life. The young family at the playground that decided to stroll through the garden to teach their young ones about plants. The smile and greeting from a neighbour picking Saskatoon berries. The planned garden therapy sessions with fellow gardeners. The gardener, you just met, sharing their peas and carrots with you and resting on the bench to contemplate life amongst all the amazing garden beds and surrounding plants.

Although the garden season is almost done, I would encourage you to take a stroll through the garden to enjoy this quiet life. Who knows, you may even find an apple or a pear to enjoy.

Thank you, Lisa Mulder, for your past contributions to the Renfrew Reflections and all your contributions to the Community Garden.
