Hounsfield Heights-Briar Hill’s President’s Message for October

by Terry Wong, President of HH-BH CA

The kids are back in school, which should allow some of us to give fuller attention to our work lives at home or in the office. In addition, the Community Centre has re-opened under Alberta Health’s COVID-19 guidelines, and the centre is starting to bubble with activity. September 8 was the first day of playschool, and with registration of only 16 kids in two morning classes, the Playschool Committee is having to deal with harsh enrollment and financial viability questions. Fortunately, there is a small reserve that will allow the Playschool to function while they determine their future.

Crime and social disorder remains a very energetic topic, whether it be at the North Hill Shopping Centre, Lions Park LRT Station, or in our back alleys. The HH-BH CA is activating a discussion group of residents and volunteers to define measures which can bring a greater sense of security and safety to the community. Please come share your ideas.

Next month is the HH-BH Annual General Meeting. Please watch for the announcements in the next month’s newsletter and on street sign boards. The HH-BH has established a 3-year strategic plan, which has been abbreviated due to COVID-19, but many of the initiatives remain viable, especially with community support. Pitch in with your hands and voice. We are looking for new Directors to the Board so please send me an email ([email protected]) to learn more.

Finally, this is Halloween Month, so be safe, dress to be seen, and have fun!
