Last month, we saw many COVID restrictions lifted, which included back to school and the beginning of some minor sports. Naturally, one can only expect an increase in cases, and we want to remind everyone to look after yourselves and your family by continuing to follow provincial health regulations – respect your community and neighbors.
We unfortunately cancelled our AGM last month as we needed time to digest a recent ministerial order which effected many Alberta non-profits such as ourselves. A new AGM will be held virtually on October 20, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, and the Microsoft Team link will be posted on all our social media feeds as well as our website, www.sagehillyyc.com. We have several open board positions this year and are looking for some new and motivated volunteers to help make a positive difference in our community. I do expect it to be a slow year with COVID, as our events are on hold, but there is always work in the background on developments, sports, relationship building, advocacy, membership, fundraising, IT, and social media.
This year, we are losing Monika Goyal. She has moved out of Sage Hill, and in accordance with our bylaws, her membership turns to an Associate. Due to this status change, it does not permit her to hold a board position. I have worked with Monika for seven years on our board, as her and I were the last two remaining founding members. Monika’s passion and dedication will be missed, and from all of Sage Hill, we thank Monika for her commitment to the community and our board.
The city has approved our application to install a dirt berm at the rink, and in the next few weeks, you will see a bobcat moving some earth around and possibly a truck or two of clean fill dropped off. The goal here is to get a 50’ x 80’ level surface (facing north to south this year) so we do not have to spend so much time with wood forms or use as much water as last year. I’d like to thank Tyler Grant for his contribution with engineering plans and drainage studies to form the basis of our application. Volunteers should be members of the association so you are covered under our liability insurance.
Due to limitations presented with COVID, we are unable to hold our annual Halloween event; however, we will be hosting a pumpkin carving and coloring contest. Please source your own pumpkin, masterfully carve it, and submit a photo to us for judging by October 31. This is open to all ages. The image to color is available on our Instagram and Facebook pages and is open for anyone under the age of 10. Winners and prizes will be announced first week of November.
