Good day Chaparralians,

The summer is over, and it is time to start preparing for the Winter months… Hard to believe it is almost Christmas already. Just a few weeks away… Let’s hope that we will be able to get together with friends and family this time around and celebrate like we used to, with good company, food, great wine, and many laughs. But I am getting ahead a bit.

First things first, and let’s get serious for a moment – kids are back at school and all the playground/school zones are still in effect, from 7:30 am to 9:00 pm. I see way too many people speeding and zooming around without paying attention. Please be mindful and pay attention to the road signs. Construction zones – and I know that it is almost impossible to get out of Chaparral without hitting one of those – have posted speed limits also, since they fixed the merge lane onto Stoney it did get a bit easier but still, please be mindful of your surroundings and pay attention to ever changing traffic flow patterns. We are all in this together when it comes to safety on the roads.

Chaparral Community Association will be having our yearly AGM this fall. More details in regard to timing, venue, and agenda will be coming out later and will be distributed to the members; we are preparing (just in case) for it to be a fully virtual event, but I am hoping that we can still do it in person, like in the good old days. As a reminder – anyone from Chaparral area can attend, but only the membership holders can vote on the items during the meeting, so please take a look at purchasing the membership before the meeting.

To “summarize” and to reflect; things were a bit slow this summer; people were taking advantage of being able to travel and to finally take some holidays and we did have a very successful Community Clean Up event where we filled three city dump trucks full of garbage and three containers full of scrap metal. It is always fun to watch couches disappear inside one of those and to watch how much stuff can actually fit into one of those trucks. We will apply for one of those next year again for sure. We are working on revamping our website and I am hoping that the new playground will be finished by the time this letter reaches you. We will start planning out the next year after the AGM, and if you would like to help – please step up to be a director on the board. We are always looking for some local volunteers to help with events.

I will wrap up with these quotes, first by Mahatma Gandhi, “Happiness is when: what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony”.

“Being good is commendable, but only when it is combined with doing good, is it useful” – Author Unknown.
