Are you a senior looking for activities that are fun and low-key? Do you know a senior who would enjoy or benefit from social activities? The Mid- Sun Seniors’ Social Club is comprised of a group of men and women from Midnapore, Sundance, and adjoining communities who share diverse backgrounds and come together for regular activities and social events. Our goal in the community is to provide programs and opportunities for seniors living in the area to interact with other seniors.
Every Thursday afternoon from 1:30 to 3:30 pm, the seniors meet at Mid-Sun Community Centre (MSCC) to play a variety of card games interspersed with chat and laughter. Not sure how to play? We will teach you – no stress! Tea or coffee and small snacks provided. If you are interested in playing, please join us. We guarantee a warm welcome. Dress casual.
In addition, the group has participated in short information speaker sessions. For example, we learned about home adaptations for seniors (chair lifts, bathroom aids, etc.) and home dental hygiene services. We have enjoyed a Jiggs’ Dinner, shared a Christmas pot-luck lunch, had a wiener roast, and St. Patrick’s Day fun. Each month, tables are booked at various community restaurants allowing us to enjoy senior specials like Wing Night, Taco Tuesday, Friday Fish, and Chips.
Thanks to the dedicated work of a small committee, the Mid-Sun Seniors received a New Horizons for Seniors Grant. This will allow us to offer interested seniors a variety of social events, day trips, and programs (information sessions, exercise, and lifestyle).
The Following Are Currently Scheduled Events:
• Every Thursday: Cards Social MSCC, 1:30 to 3:30 pm
• Fish and Chip Friday: May 5, 5:00 pm at Hideout Pub (380 Midpark Way – behind Wingate Hotel)
• Bingo Night: May 23, 6:30 pm in the Multi-Purpose Room, MSCC (Maximum 40 people)
• Seniors’ Week Social: June 8, 1:30 to 3:30 pm in the MSCC. Outdoor event (indoors if inclement weather). Bocce ball, ring toss, and snacks. Fun! Fun! Fun!
