Seniors and young alike have their eye on the much-anticipated May long weekend. Some eagerly await time for holidays, the planting of flower beds and gardens, time visiting grandkids as the school year ends or just warmer weather and longer days. For some the season passes too quickly. For others the season is lonely as family and friends are away or “on the go”. Our seniors’ group will continue to enjoy weekly card games and a variety of activities throughout the summer. We hope that you will join us if you find yourself “at a loose end” or looking for some new contacts.
The New Horizon’s Grant for Seniors, which assisted us in offering many exciting, subsidized activities to seniors in the Mid-Sun and adjacent areas, came to an end on March 30. As awareness of the group’s activities increased, numerous people joined us to engage with other seniors and benefit from the social contact. Although we may no longer be able to subsidize events, our committee will continue to plan and offer a wide variety of experiences.
Activities for May:
Cards and Games
Every Thursday, 1:30 to 3:30 pm, Mid-Sun Community Centre
All seniors 55+ welcome. No experience necessary. We play a wide variety of games, which includes indoor cards and newly purchased outdoor games (bocce, croquet, etc.). Small donations accepted. Tea, coffee, snacks provided. We are always happy to teach the games in a stress-free, no pressure atmosphere. We also welcome you introducing us to a new game.
Bingo
Monday, May 13, 6:30 to 8:30 pm, Mid-Sun Community Centre
Cash only event. Ten games called. Cards: $5 per pack of ten (one card for each game). Cash prizes. Cash concession. Registration is necessary.
Pub Nite
Tuesday, May 21, 5:00 to 7:00 pm
This month we will gather at Rockwell Food and Taps, Millrise (opposite Sobeys). We meet at a different local pub each month to interact with other seniors. Take advantage of an easy way to meet us and learn what this seniors’ group is about. RSVP required.
Potluck
Tuesday, May 28, 12:00 to 4:00 pm, Lake Sundance Cook House
Food, fun, outdoor games, and socializing. All seniors 55+ are invited. RSVP please.
