Parkland Cares is a community-based organization of families and neighbours committed to helping others.

Parkland’s Canada Day Parade was a fun family event. Big thank you to all the Parkland Canada Day Parade volunteers. Extra big thanks to the seven youth volunteers and their wagons that made it most of the parade to collect Food Bank Donations! We collected a pile of great non-perishable food donations.

We’re hoping to bring back the Kids Craft Market on August 6 at Park96. We need a volunteer or two to take the lead on organizing this event (with help from myself and the last organizer). Basically, you would be taking in registrations, organizing participants, and helping with set-up and tear down on the 6th. Let me know if this could be up your alley! Past Kids Markets have been a great opportunity for kids, ages 7 to 16, to hone their entrepreneurial skills and contribute to Parkland Cares community fundraising efforts. Also, please contact me if your child/youth might be interested in participating.

Due to ongoing restrictions, there are limited volunteer opportunities available at the moment. Here are a few you could look into in our community:

Urgently Needed: Please contact the Church directly if you can help at [email protected].

Deer Park United Church is looking for drivers to pick up at Community Kitchens for the food security program at DPUC. Our usual drivers are taking July and August off for well-deserved breaks. We are trying to secure new drivers as soon as possible, as without drivers it is very likely we will have to put the program on hiatus over the summer months. We’d be looking for help between July 8 and August 26.

The commitment:

  • Driving to and from Community Kitchens of Calgary: Thursday mornings from 8:00 to 11:30 am (including travel time).
  • DPUC is able to provide carts, as well as a rental for a cargo van if driver is able to donate time but not vehicle.
  • Volunteers should feel comfortable lifting up to 20 lbs as they will be choosing the food for the food program.
