Parkland Cares is a community-based organization of families and neighbours committed to helping others.

Happy New Year! Hope that 2022 is your year to shine and share.

Many thanks once again for the generous support of our Grocery Gift Card Collection in December. We collected $845 in cards. Amazing! These cards were used to help feed children attending Wilma Hansen Jr. High and Deer Run Elementary schools.

Parkland and Bonavista Cares have partnered once again for 2022 and are excited to announce our upcoming ‘Purses of Hope’ campaign in February.

On their website they note that “Purses of Hope” came from the idea of collecting new or gently used purses, filling them with a few essentials and lots of “hope”. They are then distributed through reputable agencies that serve at risk women.

We will be collecting the following items for the Purses of Hope campaign from February 1 to 13.

  • New or gently used purses.
  • Unopened travel sized toiletries (e.g., shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush/paste, face/body wash, deodorant, lip balm, floss, disposable razors, make-up).
  • New travel mugs and water bottles.
  • New or gently used scarves, gloves, and socks.
  • Brushes/combs.
  • Tissues and wipes.
  • New nail clippers/manicure sets.
  • Gift Cards.

Drop off locations in Parkland: 599 Parkridge Drive and 14531 Parkland Blvd.

Please keep posted for more information about our much-loved ‘Birthday Bags’ initiative for the Calgary Food Bank coming in April.

We had a great planning meeting in January, and we look forward to our 2022 initiatives!

Volunteers still needed at the Calgary Food Bank: On going. https://www.calgaryfoodbank.com/volunteer/.

Please contact us if you have ideas for ways to encourage strong community connections, or if you would like to help with any of our planned events.
