Welcome to the fall. Our incredible summer has flown by and hopefully you had a chance to enjoy the great outdoors with family and friends as easing COVID restrictions made life somewhat normal again for awhile. Unfortunately, we were not able to host our two main events again this year due to COVID – the DRCA Stampede BBQ and DRCA Music in the Park. Hopefully, 2022 will be a better year to host these events since we know people really miss these community events. As an alternative, the DRCA has held a few food truck events in the last year as a safe social distancing option and hopefully you were able to attend one of these.
The DRCA has continued to raise concerns about the additional congestion and strain on Griffith Woods and surrounding area, as well as safety and security concerns to the City. One of the solutions the City implemented was to improve parking options at the east entrance to the park. Lines were re-painted to allow more vehicles to properly park and the City will continue to monitor the situation to assess if further action is needed. The City has also placed a street sign directing park traffic to the lot parking to encourage people to park there rather than in the surrounding residential streets.
The DRCA continues to work with the City and affected parties to improve biking and walking access to other community pathways and parks. As we have significant updates, we will keep you informed.
Lastly, if you see any illegal activity or firepits in Griffith Woods, have any traffic safety issues, or if any public restrictions regarding COVID are being ignored in the community, please call 311 so the City can track feedback and take any necessary action. Please note that the DRCA does not have the power to enforce bylaws or public health restrictions.
Stay safe and healthy.
