The official opening of West Eau Claire Park – where the heart of the city meets the Bow River took place on September 21 at 10:30. The new West Eau Claire Park connects Eau Claire, and downtown Calgary, with the city’s extensive promenade and cycling network. It also serves as an integral part of the flood protection system for our downtown. The focal point of West Eau Claire Park is the Delta Garden, an architectural delta moving people from the Peace Bridge, through the park and into downtown.

Sadly, the weather was pretty nasty, but a good crowd turned out anyway, including a number of Board members from ECCA.

Druh Farrell, Councillor for Ward 7 and a big proponent of the project spoke, as did Joyce Tang, Program Manager, Urban Strategy with the City of Calgary. Joyce was our point of contact throughout the project and was extremely generous with her time keeping both the Board and the residents informed on a regular basis.

I’m sure we’re all glad that the end result of this two-year project is both beautiful and resilient. And yet another attraction for our neighbourhood.
