Evergreen’s Traffic and Safety Update for March 2023

Evergreen cn

Please slow down, drive safely, and watch out for each other!

Traffic

Traffic Around Schools

There is still a lot of concern with the way people are driving around the schools. Slow down, make sure your kids cross safely, do not stop on Fish Creek Blvd., no U-turns, etc. If you are unsure where the proper hug-and-go area is, please contact your school.

Traffic Survey

A traffic survey is being drafted to capture the concerns and feedback of the traffic use in Evergreen from residents. This will be used for data gathering and planning potential traffic changes in Evergreen, and eventually a traffic forum. The traffic study will focus on traffic around the schools, and the main routes through the community!

Slow Down in Playground Zones!

This time of year, daylight starts lasting a little bit longer. I ask everyone to be safe when driving in the playground zones and watch out for one another. Please be safe around the school buses, watch for kids, no U-turns, and be mindful of the people living nearby. They are your neighbours, be courteous. Playground zones are in effect until 9:00 pm.

Safety

9pm Routine

Keep your doors locked! This includes car doors, garage man doors, house doors, and garage doors. It’s also good (even encouraged by Calgary police) to develop a “Secure your home and property routine” before heading to bed. Most crimes reported in Evergreen are crimes of opportunity with theft from motor vehicles being the top of the list. If you park on the street or in your driveway, please ensure you have removed all valuables and locked your vehicle. Consider following the 9pm Routine every evening.

Neighbour Cards

Download a Neighbour Card at https://calgarycommunities.com/updates/my-neighbour-card/. This will help you put down some basic contact info and break the ice with your neighbours. Typically, the crimes that are reported are break and enter, theft from vehicle, and vehicle theft.

Snow and Ice Concerns

As we may receive significant snowfall in March, please be careful while dropping kids to school or at the bus stop. Help us to keep all the sidewalks in Evergreen snow and ice free! If you notice any city walks with snow and/or ice, please contact 311. Be a Snow Angel to those around you! It will increase the safety of all and will help those will mobility issues. To be a Snow Angel, or to thank a Snow Angel, go to https://www.calgary.ca/volunteer/snow-angels.

Reporting

Once again, if you witness any traffic or safety issues on an ongoing basis, please take the time to both report it to at [email protected] or [email protected], and also via the Traffic Service Request directly to the police. This can be done at http://www.calgary.ca/cps/Pages/Traffic/Traffic-Service-Requests.aspx.

Please report road and sign issues to 311. This can be done online at http://www.calgary.ca/CS/CSC/Pages/311.aspx or at the app website http://spot311.calgary.ca.
