Gardening

The sun is getting stronger, and the snow is disappearing, which means it is time to start thinking about this year’s garden. We have two upcoming events to put on your radar:

1. A hands-on workshop on container gardening led by Janet Melrose. Watch for more information to come on the bold signs near the community hall.

2. Our annual plant exchange will take place on Saturday, May 20 from 10:00 to 11:30 am at Glenbrook Greenthumbs Garden (corner of 30 Ave and 51 St.) We will swap annuals, perennials, bedding plants, seeds, house plants, and more. Please pot and label your items to be swapped.

Tai Chi

You will feel so invigorated and ready to face the day after a session of gentle exercise on Tuesday mornings.

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes and dry-non-slip shoes, and come join us at 10:00 am at the community hall.

Upcoming Dates: April 11, 18, 25; May 2, 9

Book Club

Our book for April is The Illegal by Lawrence Hill, a story of refugees that reminds us to “consider the plight of the unseen and forgotten among us.”

For May, we will read The Authenticity Project by Clare Pooley.

Upcoming Date: Wednesday, April 19 at 1:30 pm

Knitting and Crafts

Spring is in the air. Have you been digging in the dirt? I am looking forward to spending a lot of time in my garden. But that doesn’t mean I put my knitting needles and crochet hooks away for the summer. I usually have a pair of socks on my needles. My least favourite thing about knitting socks is closing the toe with the Kitchener Stitch ¬– until I found a tutorial for an easier way!

Upcoming Dates: Thursday, April 13 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm, Wednesday, April 26 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at the community hall.

Fun and Games

Meet new neighbours, laugh with games and friends, exercise your mind, and enjoy a potluck snack bar. Join us on Friday afternoon, bring dry shoes, a mug for tea, and a favourite game if you wish.

Upcoming Date: Friday, April 21 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the community hall.

Coffee Social

Join us on the fourth Friday of every month for fun, fellowship, and food. In the past couple of months, we have celebrated International Women’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day, and we’re excited by what we have planned for April. Bring dry footwear and a mug for tea.

Upcoming Date: Friday, April 28 from 10:00 to 11:30 am at the community hall.

Pickleball

You know spring is here when pickleball moves outside. The courts will be set up at the beginning of May, weather permitting, at the Glenbrook rink. Games will take place on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. New players are welcome on Friday mornings for free, with friendly instruction and equipment provided.
