2023 was an incredible year, full of SECA events, programs, and advocacy provided by volunteers for our residents. These accomplishments were made possible by our strong corps of volunteers, collaborators, and funders:

• Nine Little Free Libraries maintained and curated

• Party in the Park for Neighbourhood Day in June

• Children’s Programming – three streams, monthly

• Community Campfires – five events gathered 450+ participants in total

• Stampede Festival – 1,300+ served

• Community Clean-Up – our most successful yet

• SECA Chairs Project – 60+ chairs distributed

• Development and Advocacy – 25+ files managed

Together, these activities helped connect residents and created greater neighbourliness, a growing sense of belonging and community pride.

2024 promises more growth and opportunities. It’s amazing what can be accomplished with many people contributing! We look forward to your ongoing support as we journey forward together. Would you like to get more involved? Join a committee? Have skills to share? From the smallest task to thought leadership, there are a myriad of possible ways for you to contribute. Let’s chat about how you would like to support SECA’s journey. Email [email protected].

Community Campfires

Our Servus Community Campfires have been incredibly well attended. It’s lovely to see that all residents, from infants to octogenarians, are gathering with their neighbours to enjoy the campfires, live music, hotdogs, marshmallows, and our delicious hot chocolate. Thank you for your enthusiastic and appreciative feedback. Join us on the last Saturday of the month from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. On February 24 bring your skates as we will co-host with Millrise Community Association at their rinks on Millrise Hill SW. On March 23 you’ll find us at the park on Evergreen Circle SW and on April 27 we’ll be in the big park on Evergreen Drive SW. Thanks to Servus Credit Union for sponsoring our series of community campfires this season! Also, thanks to the nearby Shoppers Drug Mart and Sobeys locations for their support of these events. Join us and remember to bring non-perishable food items for the Food Bank.

Emergency Transitional Housing

SECA is working closely with Councillor McLean and the Ward 13 office to follow the development of the Transitional Housing project. Email the Ward 13 office at [email protected] for the latest information and/or to provide feedback. You may also request more information or provide feedback to the Housing Strategy Team by calling 3-1-1. SECA is following this development and will endeavour to keep residents informed via Facebook (ShawneeEvergreenYYC) and through our electronic newsletter. Subscribe to the e-newsletter.
