Greetings Ward 12,

It is getting to that point of the year when we have all had more than enough winter. I find myself full of anticipation for the warmer weather and getting outside to enjoy all that our Ward and City have to offer. When you live where we live, it’s not hard to enjoy being out and about, reconnecting with friends and neighbours, as life transitions outdoors.

In that spirit, I want to encourage you to participate in community events in your neighbourhood this spring. It is a convenient way to find yourself surrounded by neighbours and fun activities. Make sure you sign up for updates for not just your own community, but for the others around you. We have so much in common with our neighbours and a road or a line on a map changes nothing. If you find something of interest, I would further suggest you volunteer. It’s so rewarding to be a part of a great resident-driven activity, and few things build relationships as quickly as working alongside others. We will be highlighting events big and small and invite you to share your plans with us to explore if there is an opportunity to support and get the word out through our various channels. I have some more events of my own planned this spring that include everything from small gatherings in coffee shops to a large community event in partnership with the Seton YMCA. Look for details on our social channels and in future newsletters.

Please keep in mind that many of our local businesses are still feeling the impacts of the pandemic and are keen to earn your business. Supporting businesses locally multiplies the impact of each dollar while increasing local prosperity. Local patronage keeps dollars circulating locally and strengthens our social resilience by connecting us relationally. We have an incredible array of local purveyors operating out of their homes and commercial addresses. As we work through this term, we will collect and share stories of businesses, and intend to build a directory of these valuable local assets. We welcome your stories and experiences as well.

If you have feedback or questions related to what is written above, or anything else related to the Ward 12 Office and City Hall, please don’t hesitate to contact my office at [email protected] or 403-826-4351.
