Alberta is Booming Again
Dear Neighbours,
Alberta is booming again.
We have a balanced budget, the fastest growing economy in Canada, the highest employment growth in the country in 2022, and the lowest unemployment rate since 2014. We are continuing to diversify our economy and create jobs in every industry.
Times are tough, but I want to assure you that your Alberta government is doing everything possible to support you and make life more affordable. There isn’t a discussion about utilities that doesn’t start and end with affordability. We are providing several short-term supports while we do the long-term work to keep energy prices affordable. From $300 in electricity rebates, to the extension of the gas tax holiday, to the upcoming natural gas rebates, we are putting approximately $2 billion in consumer relief back in Albertan’s pockets.
We are also continuing to invest in the future of our children and the next generation of community leaders as more dollars will be going into classrooms to support today’s students. 1,600 more teachers and support staff will be hired in this 2022/2023 school year alone. Additionally, we will be providing school authorities additional funding to support higher salaries for teachers, address enrolment growth, and support francophone education. That’s an increase of 2.2 percent and 3.1 percent, respectively, from the 2021/22 school year.
