Presidents Message Crossroads

Happy September, Crossroads!

It’s like New Years for our Community Association in September, with a renewal of activities and our board.

Come on out to our Community registration night for programs at the hall September 5th. Join sports, Scouts and more…

I hope you have considered how we can make our community better and are ready to step forward and join us. I would like to again encourage you to join us September 9th at our Annual General Meeting. All directors are up for renewal and the more the merrier. Each Director is asked to sit on at least one committee. In many cases the director IS the committee, but we encourage others to join them and help lessen the load. As for our executive, myself; Ricardo, our second vice; and Kim, our secretary, are in the middle of our 2-year term. Our first VP role and treasurer role are up for election this time around. You need a 2017-2018 membership to run and vote, but don’t let that stop you from buying a new 2018-2019 membership and join us any time throughout the year. Many hands make light work.

Drum Fun is back in early September, a revamped Pub Night September 28th and Movie Night returns October 12th. Yoga and Fit2Age continue as well.

Come on out to our first ever Lawn Chair Theatre in September on the 22nd from 4-6pm at the hall. We’ll have two exciting live acts performing, including an amazing and funny juggler and circus act. Grab your new community membership at the same time and meet your neighbours. We’ll have popcorn, juice and water available thanks to your city of Calgary.

Our new Crossroads garden is in the works at the hall; see how you can get involved. Exciting urban farming is right in your neighbourhood. Visit the Vista garden at their harvest celebration.

See some urgent news from our Crossroads Blockwatch as they need some help.

I’ll remind you that volunteering can pay. We offer credits for our community programs if you volunteer to do bingos and our casino, which both help us to offer our programs at a reduced rate. Reach out and find out more.

That’s all for this month, Crossroads. Be well, stay safe and say hi to your neighbours. It pays to be a member, join us. “Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in.”
